CRAFTY CHANGES AT CORNHILL
Some of you may have noticed that something new has appeared beside The Collingwood Arms at Cornhill-on-Tweed. Noren Cozens, owner of this well known, family-run hotel, and NNTA Member, has replaced the Stable Bar, in a barn next to the main building, with a new Craft Shop, and your Editor visited it recently.
"The barn had been unused for about ten years," explained Noren, "so I knew we must do something with it before it became derelict. As I became aware of local talent, I decided on a craft shop. A friend of mine deals in antiques, so we thought this would make a good combination."
Noren was pleased to show me how she had created a very attractive showplace for genuinely locally based crafts and plenty of antiques. In the large, long, characterful room, which used to be a bar, there was lots of room to move around and appreciate the antiques on display, and I saw wooden objects made in Learmouth, dressed sticks from Branxton, hand-made jewellery from a local lady and the popular silk and feather products from Ronnie Hek of Coldstream amongst many others.
The Craft shop is useful to pop into if you are passing through Cornhill on your way to Coldstream or Kelso, and it is, of course, an extra asset for guests at the hotel, with access for the disabled. If you find it shut, just call at the hotel and Noren will open it up for you. She will be pleased to see all NNTA Members and their guests!
