The Border Tart: NNTA Newsletter November 2003
AN IMPORTANT DATE FOR YOUR DIARY
Please note that our AGM will take place on Thursday 29 January 2004 in the Guildhall, Berwick.
As usual, we plan to welcome you with a free lunch and mulled wine at 1pm, with the Meeting commencing at 2 pm. This will feature an address by our President, Lord Joicey, a speech by special guest Jane Pannell, Chief Executive of Berwick Borough Council, a tour of the new NNTA web site and a free draw for those attending with two prizes of dinner for two kindly given by Ian and Elaine Lang of Tillmouth Park Country House Hotel and by Ann Park of the Tankerville Arms Hotel, Wooler.
Full details of next year's programme of social events, familiarisation visits and training courses will, of course, be available. We hope to have finalised the arranging of fam. visits to, amongst others, the Lindisfarne Heritage Centre and Lindisfarne Castle; Coquet Island, near Amble (a bird-watching boat trip around the island, on which one is not permitted to land); Floors Castle, Kelso; Mellerstain House, near Gordon; and the Maize Maze at Fishwick, near Berwick, (a return visit, at a time when evenings are lighter).
For those who have never seen the old courthouse, gaol, the Berwick Cell Block Museum and the famous bells in the Guildhall, a guided tour will also be on offer in the capable hands of Michael Herrriot. Those members who have enjoyed it before can testify to Michael's cheerful and enthusiastic manner and to the fascination of seeing the Condemned Cell and other gruesome reminders of what it was like to be a prisoner in the 18th century.
