The North Northumberland area offers plenty for those who like to be on the water. We have more Islands here off our nationally recognised coast than the whole of rest of the English East coast! The Farne Islands is a divers paradise with hundreds of registered wrecks.
The great beaches of Beadnell bay and Bamburgh offer the more energetic an opportunity to go board surfing, stand up paddling and kite surfing, whilst those looking for a more sedate form of transport can sea kayak the coast.
The Great border River Tweed is the perfect canoe-touring river and some of its tributaries can provide a bit of a challenge for the more experienced paddlers.
As the majority of the coastline is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the river is designated as a Special Site of Scientific Interest we are keen that any recreational users participate responsibly and one of the best ways of doing this is to employ a local guide. There is also a ‘code of conduct’ section on the AONB site to help those finding their own way.
